First cruise with an inside cabin and loved it. Will never go back to a balcony when an inside cabin is basically 2 for 1. Yes, it's basically just a bed and a bathroom but we were only there to sleep, shower and change clothes. Okay, embarkation was easy. We chose the latest time slot. Got into our cabin about 3 PM. Our cabin was on deck 4. Little motion detected. Ever. Poolside activities were fun to watch even if we didn't participate. I tried to learn some dances but the pace was just too fast for me. Camila (from Columbia) did the morning exercise classes. She also ran the trivia game and was a lot of fun. She told me she is going to be on the Norwegian Gem soon. Night time entertainment was geared towards older crowd. 70's, 80's and 90's nights are passe. Abba and Carpenters tributes. Really? Dance music was okay but if I never hear Pitbull's "Fireball" again I will be fine. Where were the current hits? What I really want to talk about is the food. What a disappointment. The food in Grand Pacific dining room was bland to point of being tasteless. Onion soup was basically hot water with a few onion slices in it. Anything noted as spicy; not really. I get that when you are preparing for 2000 people you have to make food palatable to the widest range of people but at least put some seasoning in it. The Garden Cafe was equally disappointing. We previously sailed on the bliss and there were multiple cuisines represented at every meal. Breakfast was the same every day. If you went to sit down dining, breakfast was the same every day. A Mexico cruise without huevos rancheros or chilaquiles? C'mon Norwegian. You can do better. No tacos or albondigas for lunch? International choices were uninspired. Finally, the much touted Cagney's Steakhouse. We get better cuts of meat at our local market and S/O is a much better cook. $60 upcharge per person is unwarranted. Seven layer cake was dry. What made the cruise for us were the people we met. 2000 people on a ship from all nationalities, religions, ages and lifestyles and everyone got along. If only we could do as well on land. Disembarkation was easy. We carried our own luggage off. So, the ship itself was a 4. Food was a 2. Activities are a 3. Crew a 4. Value for the $$ spent 4.
The best experience possible, the service was a 5/5 stars the buffet was excellent, main dining room was just so/so i would highly recommend this cruise to anybody and visiting the Mexican riviera for the first time was a dream. I was greeted by a friendly face and warm good morning every day, the performers on the ship were unbelievable. They have a nice casino and offer a wide variety of table games and slots. Cagneys steakhouse was excellent, I am a first time cruiser and I surely will be back, norweigon is amongst the best for a reason. Next cruise is to the caribbeans with of course Norweigon, the. I will say going in November is amongst the best time to travel to the Mexican riviera, the only thing I would change is have separate menus at both dining locations, the excursions ran by Norweigon are top of the line.
