South America, BA to RIo and our first Oceania. (Previous NCL, Cunard, Seabourn and one Regent) Ship is quite nice and first impressions were good. Beautiful dining room and well maintained ship. Room (Verandah concierge) was showing its age and up for a Reno later this year we were told. Rain Shower was first ive not been able to use due to my height (6’4) but wand worked ok. I criticize people who write here and get into the minute details “they used to make their own croutons but now i know they are from a box” etc so point form: -food was very good. -service at times lacked esp in main dining room -we loved the aquamar restaurant -specialty restaurants all good thou occasional issue with food served cool -quality of food excellent: lobster, soufflés, foie gras -entertainment good but not great -pool and deck area good and never seemed crowded -id give seabourn and regent a 9 or so out of 10 and give Oceania an 8 -we thought we got great value when considering all included (Wifi, drinks, tips) -We would take Oceania again with pleasure
Loved the size of ship (only 1250 pax). Easy to find your way. We enjoyed the grand dinning room. Food and service were wonderful. Found the service was good in specialty restaurants, but food too many times was over seasoned and lobster overcooked. The night we had lobster in the grand dinning room was perfect. Nice selections everyday on the menu. Shops on the ship were Just okay. Had a hard time using our on board credit. So used it at the over priced spa. The cooking classes were a nice way to pass the time on sea days. Learned some good tips. We chose the penthouse suite, the space was good, our butler excellent, and housekeeping team excellent. This was our first time on Oceania. Our last few trips have been on NCL Haven and Queen Mary II, and I have to say Oceania met our expectations. Nice trip.
I would rate this cruise 10/10. Everything was excellent. Staff service was impeccable. I upgraded to the Vista suite, and it was everything I would want in a suite. But the most attractive aspect was having viewing access at the front of the ship. Especially with a destination such as Antarctica. Food (menu, preperation and presentation) was also impeccable. With the vista suite, I had access included for the specialty restaurants (Italian, French, Asian & Steakhouse). The daily buffet meals available had good variety and the food quality was excellent also. On sea days, lots of activities on the ship, plus a very good entertainment schedule every evening. Also took advantage of the gym when the weather turned colder after leaving Santiago. The 3 days at Antarctica was incredible for what we saw, plus good viewing of whales and penguins, and numerous birds. Also staff on board to give commentary on different viewing, photograph or video opportunities. I also think this was the right size ship for the destination we had and the seas that we navigated. The Chilean fjords were very interesting also, with various stops at the towns along the way. This was my first cruise, working directly with Oceania for the reservation. I arranged my own air travel, used the Oceania hotel service in Santiago but made my own post cruise arrangement in Buenos Aries. Overall, Oceania provides excellent cruise value and I look forward to my next Oceania cruise.
