Sail aboard Majestic Princess® and enjoy the signature favorites you’ve always loved such as Crown Grill and the Catch by Rudi, a celebration of all things ocean from head of culinary arts Chef Rudi Sodamin. Relax at the Hollywood Club, a Hollywood chic-style environment day and night, year-round, surrounded by comfortable loungers, modern sculptures and topiaries. Come aboard and find out what makes this ship so special.
First cruise for a couple in their 40s. Amazed at how fast and easy getting on the ship was and that's including picking up our medallions as we forgot to have them mailed to us beforehand. We had a small inboard cabin that was well kept the entire trip. Was not much to it but the bed was comfortable and the washroom/shower were better than most hotels. Didn't spend a lot of time in there anyway as there's always something to do on the ship. Food was fantastic everywhere on the ship and the design of the World Marketplace in the middle center of the ship was brilliant. Honestly, the food there would have been good enough the entire week. We reserved the late dining time in Allegro all week and it was top notch. Menu variety every night was impressive and the atmosphere managed to feel cozy even though it's a large area. Theatre entertainment was great and it felt that each successive show over the week got larger and larger. The Irish duo who played in O'Malley's were fun and always drew a large crowd. My hands were actually sore from clapping after leaving the ship. Having purchased the drink package likely help that as well. The Medallion concept was great, although on two occasions I did not have my requested drink delivered even though the app said it was completed. I asked guest services about it and was told you need to wait a few more minutes sometimes even when it says delivered. Swimming with the dolphins in the Dominican is something I would recommend. The tour in Puerto Rico with an included dining experience was nice as well. Turks & Caicos we didn't have an excursion, just enjoyed to beach. All of the staff had great attitudes and were very accommodating. Didn't make any use of the fitness facilities and this cruise is definitely not tailored to small children, the few teenagers on board always seemed to have something to keep them busy. They gave us the wrong luggage tags for disembarking which we noticed and went to Guest Services. They helped us immediately and had it straightened out with the correct tags in 5 minutes. This was a great first cruise experience, it will be hard to pick another cruise line and believe it will be as good. I recommend this cruise ship to anyone.
We recently enjoyed an eight-night cruise on Majestic Princess, visiting some old places and one significant ‘bucket list’ destination for anyone who loves the Caribbean. The ship is well and truly in the ‘Goldilocks Zone’; not too small and not too big – just the right size. It’s well laid out and suited me down to the ground. Embarkation We hired a Lyft to get to Terminal 21 from the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina and we were dropped at Terminal 25! We then had to drag our cases up to the taxi rank and down through the hoards of people coming off the ship to get to the Terminal. I think that this was a cunning ruse by our driver to be instantly available for another fare. Personally, I think access to Terminal 21 is terrible as there is no separation between incoming and outgoing passengers. We dropped off our two cases and headed inside. This improved immeasurably. Coming in from the UK we did not have our medallions delivered to us. Even with the extra queueing for the medallion, we spent the grand total of ten minutes inside the Terminal building before getting onto the ship. The process was smoother than Dean Martin covered in baby oil. Sail Away Always an exciting moment as we get under way, until you see the scrum in World Fresh Marketplace to get a meal! We went straight to deck 17 to get as wet as possible as quickly as possible. TIP: wear your swimsuit on the way to the ship! The only problem with this was the fact that we were in the Port hot-tub that has no jets; no problem, just relax with a cool glass of something and watch the big screen for a while. Lunch could wait until later. Connectivity Having the Premier Package rules! Posting sunrise and sunset pics on a sea day to me felt nuts. It was good to keep up with everything happening in what, I think we can all agree on, was a ‘busy’ week in the news. It was a real shame to learn that Alex Bregman had signed with the Cubs. That, and listening to UK podcasts while sunbathing on deck 17. Cabin Our luggage arrived promptly and we unpacked straight away. There’s plenty of storage space in the wardrobe and around our Mini Suite on Deck 14. Everything that we initially tried all worked and we had no immediate issues. We never had a real issue with the low-level courtesy lighting at night and the notorious ceiling light adjacent to the bathroom never actually came on. TIP: use the small cushions from the couch to block the low-level IR sensor if you don’t want the light to come on. We were well covered for power outlets; two USB outlets on ONE side of the bed, a type C (Euro round pin) for my wife’s UK hair curler and a standard US outlet with an adapter for my iPad and iPhone. My only gripe was with the safe in the cupboard by the bathroom door. When the safe was open the safe door would swing out and interfere with both the the bathroom and cupboard doors. The Dawn Chorus I’m a relatively light sleeper on a cruise ship going all the way back to our first cruise in 2004. I’ve always had a fascination with wandering around a sleeping ship in the early hours, grabbing a coffee and having a good look around and chatting to other earlybirds. This cruise was no different and I passed many a cleaner on deck 16 on my way to get a coffee. TIP: the freshest coffee appears in World Fresh Marketplace at around 05:00am. Look for the blue urns to be in their normal position and not on a dining table (because that coffee is awful!). I had a latte from the International Café once (as it was included in the Premier Package); not nice and way too hot. I’ll wait for 05:00am, thank you. UK TIP: bring Yorkshire Teabags; the breakfast teabags are OK, but you can do better. Shops The shopping for what I would realistically buy was very limited. I spent my onboard credit derived from the now-defunct Best Price Guarantee wisely on goods that I was intending to buy either on the ship or at an airport. I’ll pass on my favourite cologne only offered in a huge bottle ($175). Pools and Tubs The three pools are all different and throughout the cruise everyone was well catered for. The Hollywood Pool Club on Deck 17 catered for people wanting to actually swim whilst the main pool on deck 16 was your atypical cruise pool; kids jumping in and really enjoying themselves and Karen having a good moan on the side (what’s a nine-year old going to do on a cruise ship in the Caribbean in January?). The hot-tubs were generally good and well used. Some were out of action for a few hours but were back in action on the same day (that Maho Beach sand gets everywhere!). Playing movies at the pool is weird. I know that it’s great for the kids but not many people can watch them and the sound can be off-putting. TIP: to greatly reduce the sound get a lounger on deck 17 further aft behind the speakers. This reduces the noise level significantly. Bars In the public areas you’re never too far away from a cool one, but that doesn’t mean that you’re going to slate your thirst any time soon. Because of the propensity of the barstools next to the bar the only place left to ‘stand at the bar’ is the lowered serving area designed for the wait staff and queue up for your turn at the bar. When you get to the front you shall find four bar staff behind the bar, but there appears to be no-one actually available to serve you. One of them shall be re-stocking the bar and the other three are preparing drinks for someone, somewhere; possibly for someone too lazy to go to the bar because they ordered a Bud Lite to ‘their current location’. Eventually, this frustrated Brit gets a drink but has to wait for what feels like an eternity. TIP: if you see a queue for the bar reach one of the hot-tubs on deck 16 go upstairs to the Hollywood Pool Club Bar as the queue there shall be much shorter. In defence of this system, I do understand that there are bar staff that push around carts of beer for those wanting ‘just a beer, please’ but they don’t stock the full range of drinks available at the bar, ie; Strongbow (apple cider, same alcoholic strength as a beer and very refreshing on a sunny day). I know this comes across as a criticism of bar culture with the majority of the guests preferring to sit at the bar, but can Princess reduce the number of stools at the pool bars? From the frustrating to the outstanding, the Crown Grill Bar was my favourite haunt in the late evening. From the selection of fine whiskeys to the Piano Man (more on him later) it was a great place to spend the end of a long day, and to use my Premier Package to work my way along the middle shelf to the point that one server asked me before I ordered “and what single malt would you like to sample next?” A premier Package is the best way to tour the world in a bar, taking in the unfamiliar and banking them for when I return home. Restaurants On an eight-night cruise where we ate in Speciality dining on four nights my favourite meal of the cruise was. . . . lunch in World Fresh Marketplace whilst docked in Charlotte Amelie. On that day there was a good mix of food available, and I just thought that that was the best meal that I had. The Specialty Dining experience that we endured on this cruise was not special at all. The Catch by Rudi – Air-conditioning so cold my wife returned to our cabin for extra clothing. An overlong 2-hour meal just for two courses, so-so quality of food for me although my wife enjoyed her meal. Sabatini’s – surly staff, no Lobster Tortellini, poor quality Lasagne (you’ll get much better in the main dining rooms), very average Chianti for $50+. Their only saviour was the spectacular Tiramisu at the very end. Not the best meal on a cruise ship for my wife’s birthday. Crown Grill – I had a poor meal because I went for the wrong steak. Had a much better 2nd meal by ordering a quality steak (Filet Mignon, as opposed to a Kansas Strip). Well recovered, Crown. The World Fresh Marketplace was probably the best cruise ship buffet restaurant that I have ever experienced. Not perfect, but it covers all the bases well. There was always something worth trying and fair play to anyone on the cruise for having curry at breakfast! Talking of breakfast, it was nice for Princess to supply an alternative to the thin, burnt and brittle excuse for bacon. The ‘English Bacon’ was a good attempt, but ultimately not even close to what a Brit would recognise as Bacon. And well played for having HP Sauce available throughout the restaurant at Breakfast. Yes, fellow British cruisers in the Caribbean; HP SAUCE! Overall, when we found the right restaurants, we enjoyed our dining experiences. TIP: if the walk-in restaurant has a long queue at 7:30pm there may be open bookable slots on the App in the other two Main Dining Rooms. Entertainment Full disclosure – I am NOT a theatre guy on a cruise ship. I’ll have a nice cocktail at Good Spirits at Sea and a later meal, thank you very much. Our favourite entertainment on the ship was in the Crown Grill Bar. To get there you walk past Princess Live! where there’s always something happening and it’s usually quite loud. The Silent Disco was great fun! I’ve done this before on dry land (with the same headsets). It’s just a shame that the second Silent Disco was the same playlists. To play a baby grand piano for nearly three hours a night is pretty daunting. To play those three hours consisting almost exclusively of requests from the audience is bordering on musical hell! Yet armed with an iPad of sheet music, some quick wit and a deep repertoire Derek from Stirling in Scotland pulled this trick off every night that we saw him in the Crown Grill. I even got my request played (albeit with a 24-hour delay because he’d never had that song requested before). The perfect musician for the perfect location. Although we never went to any of their performances the Irish Duo in O’Malleys bar were just what you would expect; a pair of Irish musicians in an Irish bar. Raising hell. Sat in Good Spirits you cannot escape their barnstorming performances on a nightly basis. Fair play to you both! And then, directly afterwards, on come the house band to completely kill the mood. Very average, have heard much better. Excursions I only did two excursions, both in St. Thomas. The Cable Car was good and very close to the dock. The sunset (sorry, late afternoon due to a change in the ship’s departure time) catamaran sail was OK. The lateness of departure and weak cocktails on board was offset by the conversations I had with our fellow passengers. Being in the last 20 to re-join the ship prior to departure provided some extra excitement. Generally, we did what we wanted on shore dictated by the fact that we were returning to two of the ports of call and finally ticking off the ‘bucket list’ item of experiencing Maho Beach on St. Maarten – the biggest reason that we picked this cruise in the first place. TIP: a $2 bus ride from Back Street is much better than a $30 taxi ride to the same destination (and you’ll be stuck in the same traffic). Smile, please! Ship photography can be a way of owning a wonderful memento of your cruise, either from a Formal Night or the ‘welcome ashore’ shot in a port of call. As we had a perfectly good Formal photo from a cruise in 2024, we didn’t feel the need to unnecessarily block staircases and access to the lifts throughout the Piazza. What we really wanted was a good welcome ashore picture. With a twist. We got our photo. Eventually. Due to what we were told were ‘AI issues’ (WHAT!!!!) we had to wait over 48 hours to eventually see our picture on the system, downloaded and printed. Not good. AI is no replacement for common sense; the missing pictures were numerically adjacent to the photos already on the system, guys! TIP: get your prints (and your downloads) early. The scrum on desk 7 on the last day was awful (and completely predictable). Disembarkation All good things come to an end, with some calmness and some chaos. As we had just one suitcase each we elected for self-disembarkation. This meant that we could pack at a sensible pace and have something nice to wear at dinner on the final night (the final night dress code was distinctly ‘casual’). After finishing our packing after breakfast, we surrendered our cabin and headed up to the Hollywood Conservatory to chillax in silence, read a book, charge devices, etc. We finally headed to the exit as late as we dare (bearing in mind that our flight home was at 17:10 out of MIA), leaving the tranquillity of the ship and into the hell on earth that is Terminal 21. In a narrow corridor we were subjected to port staff shouting directions to split guests into using the stairs and the lifts (buy a TV, connect to powerpoint and let us work it out, please). I use the term lifts generously as there was actually only ONE working lift! Sensibly, the wheelchair passengers were receiving priority in this situation. The lift itself was about the size of a hotel lift and should be the size normally found at a major European airport; big enough for 40 passengers and their luggage. The stairs could have been used as they were ridiculously wide. Wide enough to install a pair of escalators? Through customs, passed the mugshot (IYKYK) and then into the next circle of hell in getting transportation out of the port but mixing with the next passengers trying to board the ship. . . . In Summary It may not appear obvious from my review, but we really did enjoy our cruise! The ship was perfect, the medallions worked well and the food and drink were generally good. I had some good conversations with international travellers, and we had a great holiday in January weather very different to what the United Kingdom was experiencing at the time. See you next time, Princess!
