Ship Reviews

xcellent cruise once again. I picked the itineray for a chance to stop at many unique places on the West Coast of South Africa. And it did not disappoint. The food was excellent in both the Compass Rose and Sette Mare. The specialty restaurants were excellent as well. There were three lectures onboard who did a great job. One on broadway shows, one on history of Africa and one a travel safety. The travel safety gave great tips and information, Peter LaSorsa was his name. I wish he had a book. The cruise director and staff had many activities going and the ship was always busy. The ship cast did a great job on their shows. There was an excellent magician onboard as well who did two great shows. Loved the Christmas decor as well. The ship is undergoing a remodel in the spring and I look forward to seeing it after that. Keep up the good work.

A great cruise so far sailing along the African West Cast. The crew is super friendly and attentive. A lot of fellow passengers are repeat Regent and/or Voyager travelers and many picked the ship for its unique itineraries. The food is fantastic in specialty restaurants as well as Compass Rose and Sette Mari. We particularly appreciate the plentitude of activities and Cruise Director Natalie and her team are always on the go. This cruise there are 3 outside speakers, and we already had magnificent performances by UK singers Lisa-Marie Holmes and Josh Henderson. As with many luxury cruise lines, excursions can be a bit of hit and miss but that probably depends more on the local tour operators than the cruise lines. We do understand that the Voyager will be in dry dock in April for a refresh, and we are looking forward to an even nicer ship in the future. Wifi works fine with Star Link.

Regent Voyager 4 Weeks Flew BA Club on BA 480 on 18/12/2025 to Barcelona. Long lines at check-in but boarding was fine, lounge was busy but comfortable. Early turbulence meant holding off a bit on drinks and lunch. Also, busy so a bit hectic but food was very good. In Barcelona, baggage claim was slow and passports clearance confusing. Overnight at Hyatt Grand in Barcelona- check in easy - hotel and rooms very flash but some things tricky to operate i.e. coffee machine and lights. Pick up late morning fine but long lines again to register with ship. then all fine. Board Voyager and a glass of champers awaits. Other pax friendly. Cabin fine. Early thoughts- it’s a long cruise so it would be nice if the cabin was say 1 foot wider and if the shower was larger (and we do not need a bath) The ship is older and due for a refurb soon. You can see where it’s not as modern or as glitzy as some of the latest ships but everything works easily except the AC which is a bit erratic. No USB ports! Coffee machine is pretty useless and difficult to work and cannot make tea (espresso only) so had it taken away and got a kettle. Daytime activities are a bit sparse though there are three lecturers; two likeable the other not. I’m also finding the evening shows a bit boring. There is some dancing to the duo etc. Service is good almost always as is the food. Anne is off big restaurants so we avoid the Compass Rose and go to Sette Marie or Prime/Chartreuse; and lunch at the Pool Grill. There is table-tennis but not in the best place, at the bar but with nice barman. Anne continues to love her Marguerites. I have found the (“free”) excursions a bit boring and the convoy system very slow and with too many pax at each venue. Weather as expected but dry. Summarising the cruise was enjoyable though we have now done West Africa. The pax were a friendly lot and we had our fav people of course. The weakness was that they had that convoy system for excursions which meant too many people at each place visited and very very slow/boring getting about, always waiting for the last person on the last bus. Disembarking: it is not ‘luxurious’ to chase everyone out of their cabins at 8 am and turfing people off the ship at 9am.However their excursion between the ship and airport as ‘late’ flyers was excellent going to Stellenbosch for wine tasting and wandering. As one resident said living there is like being in a bubble with very nice shops/cafes/etc with real Africa elsewhere. Flying home on Virgin Premium - we could check in 4 hours ahead which is good, boarding was smooth and the flight was also smooth and on time. Food was very average and service was OK. I need to add: the cruise was enjoyable with good food, cabin & service and even after 4 weeks was disappointed to be flying home. fajt 14/1/26
