Really, it was great! Only disappointment was that we got WOW band for the kids, and it was supposed to show their location on the ship, but that function wasn't working. It did open the cabin door, which was nice because that's all they use it for and it was nice to not have to have a 5 year old with a lanyard. WE missed a port due to weather. We had adjoining cabins, and it works differently. There are outside doors you can close, and then you can leave your cabin door open. The kids loved it. It was better noise wise than other adjoining cabins as far as noise. The elevators ask you to choose your floor from a panel, and then it directs you which elevator you should use. Works well most of the time. The Windjammer is too small for the ship, so we would fetch breakfast and eat on our balcony. We actually liked that! We did the MDR every night. The food was great! I did notice smaller portions, which was actually great because there's always so much waste on a ship. There were lots of Germans on our ship! They use the gym! It's not small, but was always crowded. The kids loved the kids club and asked to go there. The entertainment was 1st rate! The shows were technological marvels! Good talent too. My husband was impressed with the Ice show. We travel with passports and both embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. We did a couple of RC excursions that were just OK. One thing I appreciated is that it didn't seem like they were "nickel and dimeing" you to death. Most things were included. We bought a non alcoholic beverage package. OUr adult kids got their money's worth on it. I don't think Husband and I saved anything, but he just liked the convenience. RC has really leaned into Family Friendly, and there were a TON of kids. If you don't want to be around kids, this is not the ship for you!
I am a Royal Caribbean Diamond member, I have been on ( too many to count) cruises. The following is an honest review. SHOWS: The good: Wizard of Oz production outstanding. The bad: Get rid of the man operating toto in the Wizard of OZ, it was very distracting. The good: Effector show, surprisingly excellent a must see. The bad: None. The good: Elemental Beauty ice show, effects were great, the juggler was amazing. The bad: The periodic table premises was confusing, too hard to follow concept. The good: The legendary classic rock, excellent The Bad: None CUSTOMER SERVICE: Main dining room service (Wayan, Kadak) Cabin Stewart (Ahmad) fabulous. We always leave an extra tip in addition to included gratuities. I realize it is Royal Caribbean policy to inform passengers how important a good review is, but to be informed everyday was a little too much. FOOD: Okay not great, Main dining room decor (plain) not a mind-blower. Embarkation day don't miss all you can eat lobster in Windjammer. CASINO: No one cent dragon links only 5 cent and 10 cent machines. No lightening machines, No Dollar Storm machines, No Buffalo link machines. 4 phoenix machines. The selection was disappointing. Lost a lot of money, no play time. You have to earn 15,000 points for a comp signature dinner. This was unacceptable. CABIN: inside balcony overlooking central park. Nice cabin. Loved the automatic window and blackout screen. ELEVATORS: Smart elevators. They were wonderful. No more cramming into an elevator. Stress-free I hope you find this helpful.
I was looking forward to sailing on the Icon as I had not been on bigger ships before. It did not disappoint. We literally did not visit or experience everything there was to do on the ship. We reserved the big shows ahead of time so we were sure to get in which I highly recommend. We reserved them a few weeks in advance. All of the shows were outstanding!. There were 7000 passengers including 2000 kids on the ship. The only time it really felt crowded was at breakfast in the buffet and attempting to play mini golf. We gave up the mini golf as there were too many kids running around the area. If you are worried about not finding places to sit, do not worry, you can always find a sunny place to hang out. Try staying on the ship during a stop like we did at Roatan. The ship was really the destination for us. We have done the Western Caribbean so many times it was more worth it to us to check out the ship when a lot of passenger leave for the day. The thing we really noticed is the new system for elevators. You hit a number pad for what floor you are going to and then it tells you what elevator to get on. There are no number buttons on the inside of the elavator. Fastest elevator times of all the cruises we have been on hands down! Tip: If you want to minimize walking, get a mid ship cabin! It was over 300 steps from rear elevator to our front cabin. I would sail on the Icon againl
