Seabourn Quest is the third iteration of the vessel design that has been called “a game-changer for the luxury segment.” True to her Seabourn bloodlines, wherever she sails around the world Seabourn Quest carries with her a bevy of award-winning dining venues that are comparable to the finest restaurants to be found anywhere. Experience Seabourn Quest
Seabourn Quest (launched 2011), an oceangoing ship with a passenger capacity of just 458 guests, offers spacious accommodations spanning categories ranging in size from 295 to 1,182 square feet of indoor space. Verandas add an additional 65 to 558 square feet of outdoor living area spacious enough for private al fresco dining. All suites feature a comfortable living area, walk-in closet, fully stocked bar and refrigerator filled with seaside favorites. Expansive ocean views are framed by either a picture window or the glass doors of the veranda.
This was our second Seabourn cruise and a very lovely experience all around. Despite reading some very negative reviews of the food on board, we found it exceptionally enjoyable. The Quest had multiple venues to dine at and each delivered food that fit the vibe of the restaurant setting. We particularly loved the Colonnade lunches that were themed to a particular country’s cuisine. Service at the Colonnade was the best on board-wine was offered and refilled without having to look for a server. The only constructive comment that I will make applies to every restaurant venue. The serving staff and the kitchens all are overly concerned with adhering slavishly to the closing times. We arrived 10 minutes before lunch closing time at the outdoor poolside restaurant on a rainy day and the minis were gone from the tables. The first words the server spoke to us after waiting five minutes to come to our table were, “We are closing now.” I said that We wanted menus and would order very quickly. He did bring back the menu then and we ordered. Immediately at 2 pm on the dot the staff slammed up the kitchen divider panels. This wasn’t a one time occurrence. I was a former waitress and I know how to ou need to do many duties after the restaurant closes so I understand the desire to get started on closing up early. But when you only have a 2 hour lunch service, I think that you could give the guests time to eat and relax before hustling about to close everything up. The staff is normally quite friendly and gracious but near the closing time every venue’s staff begin rushing about and loudly stacking china and briskly end contact with the guests still dining. This emphasis on timelines seriously detracts from guests’ enjoyment and resulted in us bolting down our food and apologizing for staying over closing time even when we were just relaxing a bit after a early arrival for the meal. The staff are not to blame. It is evident that they are on a strict schedule that is Seabourn Management’s Priority. My advice is to make guests feel relaxed and welcome while dining or drinking a cocktail should be the main goal of this luxury line. Naturally, staff and management need a schedule to ensure that the large number of guests are feed and dispersed quickly in order to prepare for the next mealtime. But the fear in the staff’s eyes and speeding up at the end of a venue’s serving time is off putting and definitely not conducive to enhancing guests enjoyment. Perhaps the management team is from a military background and has always put the schedule first. But the guests are not enlisted members of the Navy. Many Seabourn guests are retired as my husband and I are. We have spent 30 plus years adhering to our own strict timelines and now we are free from the clock. That’s why we cruise on very expensive ships in part. Freedom to do as we choose. And the rest of a Seabourn cruise is truly a dream come true. Excellent entertainment and James as Cruise Director is marvelous. He is so talented as a performer but equally great at hosting Trivia and other fun events. We hit some rough seas and had to skip two ports. But the Captain kept everyone apprised of what was happening and why we were safer at sea. He was a great leader and handled the anxious crowd with bomb. The Japan to Hong Kong voyage was the best trip that we have ever taken. We are world travelers and had never been to Japan, Taiwan or Hong Kong before. This cruise was absolutely the perfect way to see these wonderful places for the first time. We added 8 days in Tokyo before the cruise and stayed a weekend in a Ryoken style Inn in Kawaguchiko near Mount Fuji. This experience was exceptional and I recommend adding time before the cruise begins to explore Tokyo and close by areas in Japan. But you can also just take this cruise and feel like you have really experienced Japan as well.
Our third Seabourn cruise. Lovely ship, pleasantly muted and updated decor throughout. Clean cabin, plenty of room with high end amenities and low end “Hollywood Hits” movies. Large bathtub ( my wife loved it ). Smallish shower. Senior demographic guests. Excellent, competent and friendly service throughout. Decent “house” wine and upper shelf liquor. Mellow and non-frenetic. Very pleasant Alaska itinerary far from the madding crowd. No serious nickel-and-dining ( WiFi $200 for 2 devices) but spa services ain’t cheap. Very good assortment of meals and menu choices ( but MAKE SURE you have your Solis reservation before you board or you may wind up with no palatable choices — we missed the old Thomas Keller), but underwhelming grocery store way-too-thin steaks ( filet was better size but not cooked to order). Excellent deserts. Overall, pretty much the expected Seabourn experience. Not quite as nice as Viking but a whole lot cheaper. Happy Trails.
Just got home from our first Seabourn cruise. I have been in Facebook groups for about 6 months prior to our cruise. I read tons of negative posts, got some recommendations, some help and some not so friendly comments. That said our conclusion after the cruise is.. Some prior seabourn cruises were over the top and guests were very spoiled. Things may have changed but what business hasn’t after Covid. We previously cruised Celebrity, it was pleasant and we enjoyed our cruises. Now that we are older we preferred small, less party atmosphere and more focus on destination. We loved our cruise except for the first few hours. They had turned off the air conditioning and our rooms were like ovens. It was fixed within an hour after calls. The staff was friendly and helpful The Excusions were Outstanding and by far the best we have experienced. Food was great. Solis was very good. Restaurant was very good. Buffet was good but I didn’t care for themes. (My husband is a gourmet cook and very much a foodie. He has attended CIA in for a few classes. We eat healthy with a lot of farm to table) nothing knocked our socks off. Best thing for me was the Oatmeal
This is a review of the 14-day Glaciers and Inside Passage Cruise, departing Vancouver on 13 June. Embarkation, including US immigration, was very straight forward and this was followed by a warm welcome from several of the senior officers as we boarded the Quest. Our suite was extremely comfortable, spacious and nicely appointed. The bathroom was large with marble fittings and everywhere was very clean. Elsewhere, we particularly enjoyed the outdoor areas on board and it was always easy to find a quiet space and just enjoy the scenery. The food was plentiful and delicious - and I delighted in trying new dishes, particularly tasting fish that’s not available at home in Scotland. All eating areas were different but with fantastic service and a good ambience. The two bars - as well as the nightly entertainment - were a real treat. My favourite days were those when the ship dropped anchor in a quiet fjord and we went out on zodiacs or kayaks. Being able to get up close to glaciers and wild sea life was phenomenal. This isn’t a cruise for children but for adults who enjoy the finer things in life. As a Scotsman who is partial to the odd dram, I can highly recommend the Scotch Whisky Tasting evening… to be fair I did have my doubts, but it was an excellent tasting from a most knowledgable host! All up, the cruise was an exceptional experience and very well organised. I must give credit to the fabulous staff including those who worked behind the scenes. Everyone was extremely polite, very friendly and approachable, and just great at what they did. Thank you! Just to note; the ratings system on the review form is unfair because The Quest isn’t a ship for children and a N/A isn’t an option, therefore the average grading is much lower than the ship and its many fine attributes deserve.
