We chose this cruise because we are extremely interested in Central European history and all things Danube. At the time we booked this cruise Uniworld was severely discounting certain cruise destinations including this one as they re-start river cruise operations in Europe. It was published somewhere (perhaps on Cruise Critic) that the River Princess was being renovated in 2020 for the 2021 travel season. It did not appear to us that the ship has been renovated, at least not completely. Some updates may have been made but they did not appear to have been thorough. Carpets appear new and paint was fresh. The ship still has garish green paint and green/black carpet in the main lounge. Guest rooms have also received some updating, possibly including paint and carpet, but things like mattresses did not appear to be brand new. The ship was comfortable and river cruising is a great way to travel. This cruise was staffed with wonderful professionals (cruise director Katalina, activities director Tomas are two who come to mind). We visited many old and wonderful cities and sites on the Danube and had a "post-trip extension" via bus to Prague which was marvelous. The food was marvelous and seemed varied based on what was available locally locally stop to stop. I would say that Prague proved to be our favorite city on this trip. This trip made us Uniworld Heritage Travelers which has some small perks including future travel discounts. By all means we will travel with Uniworld again and would take this trip again. Traveling in the fall of 2021 was challenging due to COVID and we may see these same type of challenges extend into 2022, but these challenges can be overcome. It is our understanding that all Uniworld travelers at this time have to be vaccinated in order to travel with them. Additionally, as US travelers, we had to have a negative COVID test within 72 hours prior to boarding an airplane when leaving or returning to the US. For this trip we were tested two days before leaving the US (next day results) and two days before leaving the ship for another back-to-back trip. Be careful with your timing. PCL testing prior to a second back-to-back trip was €38 each and done at the military hospital in Prague with next day results. Additionally we were asked to show proof of vaccination at Central European restaurants and bars before entry was allowed and/or we were served. Masks are required indoors but not all patrons were wearing them. A patron outside a Prague bar scoffed at us as we donned masks before entering. Generally European vaccination rates are high. (Note: Antigen testing in Ireland before returning home was €69 each.) Airlines flying from the US appear to all have the same basic requirements to fly in Fall 2021. For our travel over our VAX record and test docs were reviewed during check-in before boarding in our home city. When we changed planes in Newark, United code sharing partner Austrian Airlines, owned by Lufthansa, made sure that all "I's were dotted and t's crossed by re-inspecting all documents before boarding and re-issung boarding passes in their name. Further, Austrian required KN95 masks and Lufthansa required the European PPS2 masks or equivalent KN95 version. Homemade cloth masks are not allowed by the Germans but masks are readily available for purchase in Europe at many places.Lufthansa again checked all docs in Prague and Frankfort as we made our way to Dublin post-cruise. United on our return trip, when checking in digitally, required us to upload the digital test results which the testing agency had provided along with paper documents.. We also had to fill out a CDC digital "attestation" form. In short, expect to have your passport and COVID documents inspected at every airport you pass through prior to boarding. I want to note that when returning from a previous August 2021 trip overseas that Delta in Amsterdam did not want to see out COVID test but instead asked us to sign an "attestation" form and check one of four boxes indicating our status. We are told that the EU issues the same recommendations to all EU countries and airlines but just like the US it is up to each to interpret and enforce as they wish.

The Anne Frank House stands as a poignant reminder of the impact of the Holocaust. And several world-class art museums, including the renowned Rijksmuseum and Mauritshuis, speak to the region’s impressive art history.
Cuisine
Dutch cuisine is diverse and reflects the country's rich culinary traditions. Traditional Dutch meals often feature hearty ingredients like potatoes, meat, and vegetables, with "stampot" being a classic comfort food made from mashed potatoes and various vegetables, served with sausages or meatballs. One of the most iconic Dutch dishes is "stroopwafels," thin waffle-like cookies filled with sweet syrup, generally enjoyed as a snack or dessert. Herring, often served raw with onions and pickles, is a popular street food and a must-try for seafood enthusiasts. Dutch cheeses such as Gouda and Emal are famous worldwide for their quality and flavour.
Beer
Beer holds a significant place in Dutch culture, and the Netherlands boasts a long history of brewing. Dutch beers are known for their quality and diversity, making them a beloved beverage choice for locals and visitors alike. In addition to famous brands like Heineken, the Netherlands is home to numerous craft breweries that offer a wide range of unique and flavourful beers. Dutch craft brewers often experiment with ingredients and brewing techniques, producing everything from hoppy IPAs to rich stouts. Beer enthusiasts can explore a growing craft beer scene in cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Rotterdam, where they can enjoy tastings at local breweries and cosy pubs.
Pottery
Dating back to the 16th century, pottery is deeply rooted in Dutch history. Various forms of the craft have taken root in the Netherlands, inspired by international styles from Italian to Chinese. The most famous Dutch pottery, however, is Delftware. The characteristic style got its start in the 17th century with the artisans of Delft, and traditionally features intricate patterns of blue on white ceramic.
